Letters from NJ@KT Camp – Tuesday Teamwork
Greetings Friends and happy Tuesday! Today campers woke up to a steady rain here in the Northeast Kingdom, with temperatures in the low 60’s. Clouds floating in the valleys made for an amazing view! Not to be discouraged by weather, as we know it’s just something to dress for, three of our groups set out to do trail work led by Orion Campbell-Wolk, the Kingdom Trails Association Trail Manager and his team.
Trail work focused on helping to open the River Run and West Branch trails in the Darling Hill section after the recent flooding. They were able to reset bridges which were carried away by the water, and work on clearing drains that were filled with silt. Before and after pics of the first bridge that they reset are below.
Today was the first day of our series of clinics presented by Ben Tufford of Highland Mountain Mountain Bike Park and Cognition Coaching. Ben is a long time sponsor of our program and one of the top skills instructors in the country and we are tremendously grateful for his support! Be sure to check out Highland’s skills clinics and summer camps, both in Vermont and at the bike park. For more info and NICA discounts – https://highlandmountain.com/nica
Ride groups went deep today, both in dealing with the weather and in exploring the trail system. The ride groups have melding into teams of friends riding together, supporting each other and accomplishing great things on the bike. We are so impressed by their resilience and tenacity!
Taco Tuesday is in full swing as of press time thanks to Chef Laura. Campers are headed off to group activities after some post-dinner free time, and coaches are preparing to debrief the day. It’s been another amazing day here in the Northeast Kingdom, and we hope you are enjoying the glimpse behind the curtain. Wishing you all a wonderful evening!
